Elvis Presley's U.S. Army Dog Tags — Fort Hood 1958
Elvis's actual stamped military dog tags from his service induction at Fort Hood, Texas, March 1958.
The Story
On March 24, 1958, Elvis Aaron Presley — the biggest entertainer on the planet — walked into the Memphis Draft Board and was issued these dog tags, serial number 53310761. He was Private Presley now. The Colonel had already calculated that this would make Elvis more beloved, not less — and he was right — but for Elvis, in that moment, it was real. He spent fourteen months overseas in Germany, living in a regular house, driving his own jeep, performing his duty just like any other American soldier. These dog tags went with him to Germany, back to America, right through the transformation that would define the second half of his career. The chain shows authentic wear. These are not reproduction — they are stamped with the distinctive font the U.S. Army used in 1958, and the provenance traces directly to the Graceland archive. I've had three different authentication experts examine these and each one said the same thing: these are the real deal.
